Originally Weissenkirchen was the centre of the historic Wachau valley. It is dominated by the impressive, fortified church from the 14th century. The square tower of the church rises above the village houses and estates of the local winemakers. Next to the church you find the oldest primary school of Austria, first mentioned 1385 and still in use.
Below the church there is the Teisenhoferhof. This court was erected as a gothic fortress in 1335.
1439-1465 it was enlarged by Heinrich Teisenhofer. 1542 two fortified towers and crennelations were added and the Renaissance court was established. It was used for meetings and court.
